Durham FA Launch Walking Football League
One Step at a time
On Sunday 28th October 2018 saw the first Durham FA Walking Football League fixtures take place at Goals Sunderland. The League was played in great spirit with some excellent football being played. A number of different Walking Football groups have come together to help establish a brand new League for over 50s in Durham. The new League involves monthly fixtures up until April 2019. The League is targeted for males and female aged 50+, with plenty of football in store at the League fixtures using FA affiliated referees.
David Ashbrook, Sunderland Reds "It’s great to have the league up and running, it’s an ideal way to get back playing football".
Tom Cowan, Peterlee Helford "Thanks to Durham FA for putting this league on, it’s great to see so many teams taking part".
Keeping active is good for all ages and we have seen a huge increase in the amount of males accessing our Walking Football sessions across the County at the 50+ age group. Developing Walking Football is a key strategic aim for the Durham FA and we aim to continue engaging with more participants and helping them to develop habitual lifestyle changes.
