County Cup finals - Match Officials Seminar
Durham FA held it’s Annual Match Officials County Cup Final Seminar on Thursday 22ND March 2018 at FA headquarters for all Referees who have been appointed to officiate in this season’s 10 County Cup Finals.
In attendance at the Seminar was Ken Clark (Chairperson of the Durham FA Referee’s Committee) John Morton (Durham FA Referee’s Committee), Terry Farley OBE, (County Cup Appointments Officer, Durham FA Referee’s Committee), Jeff Russell (Referee Development Officer) and Guest Speaker for the night Sebastian Stockbridge (Football League Referee).
Seb’s presentation for the night “Preparation For The Big Game” provided a lively nights entertainment for all, plenty of group teamwork sessions including a Laws of The Game Test, Duties of the 4th Official, and Kicks from the Penalty Mark to decide the result of a Match.
The County’s top game is the prestigious Durham Challenge Cup Final which will be played on Tuesday 10 April, kick off 7.15pm at The Hetton Centre, between Northern League Division 1 sides Consett AFC and Dunston UTS. Match Officials for the game will be John Matthews (Referee), James Bancroft and Karl Barron (Assistant Referees) and Adam Williamson (Reserve Referee).
Referee Development Officer Jeff Russell commented at the end of the night "the evening has been an excellent success giving all chosen officials the chance to meet up prior to their respective Cup Finals and appreciate their reward at being selected for their County Cup Final. There had been a total of 546 Referee Appointments plus 176 Assistant Referees in this year’s County cup Competitions and all players, officials, spectators are looking forward to some cracking games ahead.
Durham FA Company Secretary, John Topping added “The appointment to a County Cup final is a reward for an excellent season for the officials and I am sure they will play their part in what is the highlight of the season for them and the teams taking part”
