Walking Football World Cup Tournament Success

Durham FA & Everyone Active Event 2nd June 2018

On Saturday 2nd June 2018 the Durham FA in partnership with Everyone Active held our very first World Cup themed Walking Football tournament for the over 50 age group at Washington Leisure Centre.

All participants were called together prior to kick-off, where Durham FA staff welcomed the guests to Washington Leisure Centre and talked through the mornings format as well as the all-important rules to be played by – all very familiar rules for some of our players.

Seven Walking Football teams from across Durham County took part in the event. The games were played at a 5v5 format (10 minutes straight through).

The event was refereed by experienced referees and it was great to see both referees and players built a good rapport with one another throughout the day with feedback from the participants praising the way the referees manged the games.

A presentation was held at the end of the event where eventual winners Seaton Carew ‘B’ were handed over the trophy plus all participants received a medal.

The whole day was played in admirable spirit and was a fantastic advert for Walking Football in Durham County.

Following positive feedback Durham FA will look forward to hosting more events for our Walking Footballers in the near future.

“Good to see a variety of new teams and more established teams, always good to catch up with people that we have met at other tournaments and make some new friends with the new teams.” Berni, Catchgate Pacemakers

"Thanks to Durham County F.A. for running a great event”
