In November 2017 Durham FA held its first FA  Level 1 in Coaching Football Course aimed at developing more female coaches; the course took place at Sunderland Bede College. 20 inspiring female coaches enrolled on the course, many of the candidates who are current players looking to start their coaching journey.

FA Tutor Grace McCatty: "The Female FA Level 1 was without a doubt one of the most rewarding courses I have had the pleasure of tutoring. A fantastic group of candidates, who all made brilliant progress and left qualified as Level 1 coaches."

"Having a female only course allowed all of the candidates to feel at ease and comfortable surrounded by people who were similar to them. It provided an open environment, where each learner was able to express themselves, be challenged and develop on their coaching journey. All of the learners left the course not only with a heap of memories and laughs but new friendships too - I would highly recommend for any female coach who is just starting out on their coaching journey and is a little nervous as to what to expect"



Many candidates who have now completed their FA Level 1 have expressed interest to progress on to The FA Level 2 course, the Durham FA are aiming to run this course in June 2018. Developing female coaches is a key priority for The Durham FA; we have worked hard, and will continue to do so moving forward, in developing the female coaching pathway within our county. We will look to run more courses like these in the future and support our female coaches.
