Referee Workshop

FA PAN Disability Workshop for Referees delivered in Durham FA

On Thursday 13th December, Durham FA hosted a PAN Disability Referee’s Workshop.

The course consisted of both theory and practical delivered by Richard Glynne-Jones from The Football Association and was the first of this particlaur workshop to be delivered any where in the Country. Special thanks to Beamish FC who are a local football club with four adult male/female pan disability teams and were keen to support our referee’s development by allowing the referee’s to put their skills into practice in a game. The aim of this course is to help upskill our referees to officiate in pan disability football which we are looking to increase participation in the near future. The workshop was free of charge and Durham FA would like to thank all referees in attendance.

We will be delivering some additional CPD courses in the near future for our officials including the FA’s new Walking Football Course.

Tim Camsell, Level 7 referee from Consett said, “I enjoyed the workshop. It covered some interesting topics and the fact that we had a representative from a local club meant that we got some real 'hands on' examples of the type of issues we are likely to encounter. The chance to referee a game and then given immediate feedback on the night was a great addition to the workshop.”

Joseph Dredge, Level 7 referee from Sedgefield states. “A thoroughly enjoyable yet insightful course into an area of football which is growing massively in the UK. Beneficial to any referee no matter what the experience or level you may be and I’d encourage anyone and everyone to get involved in PAN-Disability football as much as possible.”

Alex Clark, Referee Development Officer commented, “Many thanks to Tom and his players at Beamish FC for providing our referees with the opportunity to officiate pan disability football. A great evening was had by all in attendance and allowed the referees to expand their knowledge and develop their skills. All referees took away vital skills and messages in order to assist their refereeing in the future. If you are interested in getting into refereeing please contact Alex Clark at Alex.Clark@DurhamFA.com”

Additional opportunities will be available in the new year for referees who would like to be involved in the new inclusion leagues. If you have any queries regarding disability football please contact Andrea Fyall our newly appointed Football Development Officer for Disability Football who would be happy to help direct you towards your nearest club or to discuss any ideas you may have.
