Durham County FA Inclusion Advisory Group

At the end of summer 2016 Durham County FA embarked upon the development of an Inclusion and Advisory Group (IAG) to increase awareness, understanding and knowledge of inclusion, equality and diversity issues to enable Durham County FA to better engage with and meet the needs of all of our local football communities - to reinforce and promote the concept of ‘football for all’.

The role of the IAG is to:-
• Advance equality of opportunity amongst all our football communities
• Foster good relationships with and between all our football communities
• Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
• Promote inclusion and Respect
• Increase diversity in footballs’ talent pool
• Clarify regulations and sanctions related to discriminatory behaviour
• Enable transparency and confidence when dealing with discriminatory behaviour

Durham County FA sought applications for membership of the group and the first meeting took place on the 7th November 2016.

Membership is drawn from a range of backgrounds including grassroots football, schools and higher education; and refereeing. Representation also bridges across disability, BAME and female participation in football. Durham County FA President Ian Shuttleworth, Company Secretary John Topping and other County FA staff also actively support and contribute to the work of the IAG which is a standard item upon every Durham County FA Board Agenda.

The group have identified specific areas for action which address local and national priorities.

At present we are finalising strategies and action plans for Disability and also Women and Girls football. We are also involved in developing a research project, with partners, relating to 11 v 11 adult football.

We are soon to address issues relating to discrimination and retention.

The work of the IAG will inform Durham County FA planning processes and priorities in the coming years.

Should further recruitment to the IAG membership be required, opportunities will be advertised through www.DurhamFA.com
