Age 14+? Do you want a different role in football? Learn new skills? Then take up the whistle and become a Referee with Durham County FA.

Football needs Referees at all levels – from Mini Soccer to Futsal to the Professional game.

With the range of different types of football being played, we offer a range of Referee Training Courses to suitably qualify and prepare Referees to operate in the most appropriate and enjoyable form of the game.

 

The FA Basic Referee Course

Course Information:  

  • Minimum Age: 14  
     
  • Course Duration: Minimum of 34 Guided Learning Hours
  • Course Prerequisites: Attend Referee Course Taster Session, completion of pre-course activity pack, attend an FA Safeguarding Children Workshop (16 or over), complete online Introduction to Safeguarding Course (14 or 15) and complete FA CRC (Criminal Records Check if 16 or over).
  • Who is it for: This course is open to anyone who is interested in officiating 11 a-side or 9v9 football.
  • Course aims and objectives: The Referees Course provides participants with an insight to the laws of the game and their practical application on the field of play. It also looks at the skills required to be a referee.
     
  • Leading to: Registered Referee Status (either level 8 Youth Referee or Level 7 Junior County Referee)

The dates indicated on the course booking cover only the first 4 Units of learning. Unit 5 requires the candidate to track the practical implementation of their lessons in a match environment, and Unit 6, the Final Assessment, can only be completed once that has been evidenced. 

Cost to attend our Basic Referee’s Course is £100 and includes the following:

  • Basic Referee Course Pre Course Programme
  • Learn The Laws DVD
  • Copy of the 2015/2016 Laws Of The Game (provided by email initially)
  • FA Safeguarding Children Workshop (if over 16) or a FA Introduction to Safeguarding Online Course (if 16 or under)
  • FA Criminal Records Check (if 16 or over and this is an additional charge of £10)
  • FA ‘Respect Training’
  • FA Registration fee for one season
  • A Referee whistle, a set of red/yellow cards with holder and match record cards
  • A certificate of qualification (following an initial five 11v11 or 9v9 games and successful passing of a final examination on the Laws Of The Game).
  • FA Referee Badge
  • The services of FA Referee Mentors and Tutors

The FA Mini Soccer Referees Course

Course Information: 

  • Minimum Age: 14
  • Course Duration: Minimum of 9 Guided Learning Hours
  • Course Prerequisites: Attend a Safeguarding Children Workshop (16 or over), complete online Introduction to Safeguarding Course (14 or 15) and complete CRC (Criminal Records Check if 16 or over)
  • Who is it for: This course is open to anyone who is interested in officiating mini soccer football up to but not including 9v9 (e.g. 5v5, 6v6, 7v7)
  • Course aims and objectives: The MSR course provides participants with an insight into the ethos of mini soccer, the laws of the game and their role in helping young people enjoy and learn about the game.
  • Leading to: Mini Soccer Referee Status (MSR)
  • Cost: £65.00

The FA Futsal Referees Course

Course Information:  

  • Minimum Age: 14
  • Course Duration: Minimum of 21 Guided Learning Hours
  • Course Prerequisites: Attend an FA Safeguarding Children Workshop (16 or over), complete online Introduction to Safeguarding Course (14 or 15) and complete CRC (Criminal Records Check if 16 or over)
  • Who is it for: This course is open to anyone who is interested in officiating Futsal games and will focus on the following areas: Understanding the difference between futsal and other formats of the game, understanding the laws of futsal and their practical application, the realities of your role – dealing with practical situations including misconduct and putting your skills and knowledge into practise by refereeing games
  • Cost: £55.00 if already a Referee or £105.00 if have no Refereeing qualifications
