The FA’s ongoing commitment to grassroots football around the country has been recognised by a UEFA Six-Star Award.
The award, classed as Superior Level by UEFA, recognises The FA’s work in areas such as special investment, innovative schemes, educational programmes and promotional initiatives for both adult and youth football.
Speaking about the Six-Star award, The FA’s National Game Manager, Kelly Simmons, commented: “We’re delighted to win this award as it recognises the depth of work undertaken by The FA on a regular basis.
“Our £200m investment into the grassroots game created national headlines last year while projects like Umbro Fives give members of the public a chance to follow in the footsteps of England stars like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney and play at Wembley Stadium.
“We’re also very proud of our Young Leaders programme which gives outstanding teenage coaches a chance to accompany The FA on a once in a lifetime coaching trip to Africa.”
The FA invested £200m into grassroots football after consulting over 20,000 people involved in the game around the country.
Research shows that there are 7m players in England and over 130,000 teams playing on a regular basis.
