Courses are available for those wanting to operate as a club referee or for parents, managers, coaches and players who simply want to increase their knowledge of the Laws of the Game. Specialised courses are also ran for mini soccer. The full referee’s qualification is designed solely for those who intend to referee 11 a-Side Football on a regular basis.
The first step on the refereeing pathway is to contact Durham FA’s Referee Development Officer, Jeff Russell, who will advise you on the most appropriate course for you. Jeff can be contacted by telephone on 0191 3872929 or by email jeff.russell@durhamfa.com be sure to include your name, address, date of birth, contact telephone number, current involvement in football and what you would like to achieve by going on a referees’ course.
The full qualification now requires the following:
1) Pre course study booklet and DVD on the Laws of the Game to be completed prior to the Course.
2) Criminal Records Bureau check.
3) Attend Safeguarding Children Workshop.
4) Attendance at the referee training course
5) Completion of 6x 11 a Side matches
6) Attendance at a subsequent training evening
Only after this will you be a qualified referee.
Applicants should note that completing your referee qualification requires a considerable commitment and they must attend all sessions of the training course. Failure to do so will result in removal from the course and the course fee will be non refundable.
