Another successful season has ended with more teams showing an interest for the 2009/2010 season.
In the League Cup Final Gateshead Redheugh and Ryhope CW met and produced a great game which was decided on penalties.
Redheugh got off to the perfect start when they led 2 – 0 at half time thanks to goals from Andrew Sim and Lee Bloomfield but Ryhope responded to the half time talk and eventually drew level with two goals from Anthony Rodgerson. Ryhope were then left to rue missed chances and the game went to penalties with Redheugh won 3 – 2.
In the Lady Eden Hospitals Cup Final Chester le Street Under 18s met Ryhope CW and came out on top 3 – 2 thanks to a brace from James Ellis and a Steven Aiston goal. Ryhope replied with goals from James Page and Jonathan Davis.
Chester le Street completed the treble when they added the Eye Infirmary Cup to the Lady Eden and the South Division championship. In an entertaining game against New Hartley they won 4 – 2.
The League Subsidiary Cup Final saw Ryhope CW play in their third final and again they finished up as runners up this time to New Hartley. Jamie Heathcote and Lee Richardson gave New Hartley a 2 – 0 half time lead before Heathcote notched his second and put the game beyond doubt. Ryhope fought back in the latter stages and a goal from Jonathan Davis set up an exciting finish.
In the North v South league winners play off Walker central and Chester le Street played out a very close game which ended up 1 – 1. the game then went into penalties and Chester came out on top 4 – 3.
The league is preparing for next season and with fourteen entries from last season a further four have shown interest from Gateshead FC, Newton Aycliffe, Wallsend BC and Snderland.
With the interest shown and the possibility of others the league could go from strength to strength.
