Durham pressed from the kick off and should have gone one up within ten minutes but for a great save from the home teams goalkeeper Jake Want from a Anthony Burrell shot. Want again thwarted Durham two minutes later with a fine save from Jonathan Evans.
Durham finally opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Joe Grant was sent clear to beat the keeper from close range. Three minutes later Durham’s pressure paid off when Luke Olabode crossed for Marc Moon to fire a fierce shot against the bar and Burrell followed in to score.
In the 23rd Minute Durham went 3 – 0 up when Liam Dunn converted a Moon cross from 12 yards.
Nottingham continued to try to get back in the game but a stubborn defence kept them at bay.
The game was put beyond doubt shortly before half time when Burrell grabbed his second and Durham’s fourth.
Intense pressure from the home side paid off in the 88th minute when a great save from keeper Adam McHugh was forced home but their joy was short lived as Burrell headed home his third and Durham’s fifth.
Durham now travel to East Riding in the third round on the 19th December 2009, following their victory on penalties against Lincolnshire.
