For example, they might help a sports club expand its age range by helping it to buy extra team kit or pay additional coaching fees. The Sport England Sportsmatch programme increases investment in community sport by matching sponsorship money pound for pound to support the development of grassroots sport in England. It makes awards to organisations running projects aimed at increasing participation in sports at community level.

The Rural Communities Themed Round aims both to address barriers and create new opportunities for participation in sport in rural communities. The programme is flexible and would therefore welcome applications either to modernise or enhance sporting facilities, or provide revenue funding for any aspect of sports development, or a combination of the two. The total funding available is £10 million of National Lottery money.

The Community Foundation manages over 200 Funds that have been set up by individuals, families and companies. Grassroots Grants - Applications can be for between £250 and £5,000. Groups can apply more than once until they have received £5,000 in total. The grants are intended to benefit the community, so can be very wide ranging, including Purchase of equipment, like a computer, oven, furniture, costs of putting on a local event or workshop, staff costs to enable the employment of individuals, contribution to rent costs (related to activities/service delivery) , cost of attending a conference or event, training for volunteers, additional activities to expand an existing funded project, activities that support community activity, activities that meet an identified need in the local community, funding to support an organisation to achieve a quality or other standard relevant to their activities. Applications for large items of equipment (£1,000 or over) are welcomed.

The Inspiring Communities programme aims to support communities to raise the aspirations and educational attainment of young people. New funding from Wells Sports Foundation
The Wells Sports Foundation is a new sporting charity created by successful entrepreneur, Barrie Wells. The Foundation is now providing support to Clubmark Clubs for grassroots sports projects. 50% grants of £500 to £2,000 (total project cost £5,000) are available for a range of projects including equipment, CRB checks, coaching and umpiring qualifications.

The ASDA Foundation Trust
Charities, schools and community groups have the opportunity to apply for funding for local projects that require financial assistance to the ASDA Foundation. The ASDA Foundation trust was set up in 1988 to support local good causes chosen by employees and is funded by profits from the mid-week national lottery. Organisations can apply for funding for a wide range of projects as long as they have the support of local ASDA colleagues.
